Common Hardware Issues & How to Troubleshoot

🖨️ Printers

Common Issues:

  • Not printing

  • Low ink/toner

  • Paper jams

Before contacting IT, try:


🖱️ Mouse (Wired/Wireless)

Common Issues:

  • Cursor not moving

  • Intermittent connectivity (wireless)

Before contacting IT, try:

  • Replace the battery (for wireless mice)

  • Reconnect the USB receiver or Bluetooth connection

  • Test the mouse on another USB port or device.


💻 Laptops & Keyboards

Common Issues:

  • Screen won’t turn on

  • Missing or unresponsive keys

  • Device won’t charge

Before contacting IT, try:

  • Restart the laptop

  • Plug into a known working charger

  • Connect an external monitor or keyboard to isolate the issue



Chromebook Updates

Keeping your Chromebook updated ensures better performance and security.

To manually check for updates:

  1. Go to Settings > About ChromeOS

  2. Click Check for updates

  3. Restart the device once the update installs


🧾 Other Hardware Issues

  • For projector, docking station, speaker, and monitor issues – ensure cables are secure and test with another port or system.
