How to Update Your Chromebook

Keeping your Chromebook updated is essential for optimal performance, compatibility with apps, and system security.


🛠️ When Should You Update?

  • You're experiencing performance issues

  • Some apps aren't working properly

  • You're getting security warnings

  • Your system behaves unusually


🔄 Steps to Update Your Chromebook

  1. Click the time in the bottom-right corner of the screen.

  2. Click the gear icon to open Settings.

  3. In the left-hand menu, scroll down and select About ChromeOS.

  4. Click Check for Updates.

    • If an update is available, it will begin downloading automatically.

  5. Once downloaded, click Restart to install the update.


⚠️ Tips

  • Connect to Wi-Fi before checking for updates.

  • Save your work before restarting, as the device will reboot.

  • Updates usually take just a few minutes.

If the update fails or the device freezes:

  • Hold the Power button for 10 seconds to force a restart.

  • Try updating again.

  • If the issue persists, submit a ticket through the IT Help Desk Portal and include your device serial number and error message (if any).
